How To Celebrate Ostara
Ostara, also known as Eostre or Ēostre, is a festival celebrated during the spring equinox, which usually falls around March 20th or 21st in the Northern Hemisphere. The festival has Pagan roots & is named after a Germanic goddess of spring & fertility, Ostara.
Ostara is a time of rebirth & renewal as the earth awakens from the long winter & new life emerges. Traditionally, it is celebrated by decorating eggs, which symbolize new life, & by planting seeds or bulbs as a symbol of growth & renewal.
Here are some ways to celebrate Ostara:
Decorate Your Home
Use bright, pastel colors & decorate your home with flowers, especially daffodils, & tulips. You can also create an altar with spring-themed items such as bird’s nests, eggs, & seeds.
Plant a Garden
Plant seeds for your garden or start a windowsill herb garden. This is a great way to connect with nature & symbolize new beginnings.
Have a Spring Clean
Clear out clutter & refresh your home. This is also a great time to donate items you no longer need to charity.
Cook a Spring Feast
Prepare a meal using fresh, seasonal ingredients like asparagus, peas, & strawberries. You can also make traditional Ostara treats such as hot cross buns.
Make a Spring Altar
Create a unique altar or sacred space in your home to honor the energy of spring. You can decorate it with flowers, candles, & other symbols of the season.
Perform Ostara-Centered Rituals
Light candles, meditate & perform rituals that symbolize new beginnings & growth. You can also create an Ostara wreath to hang on your door or as a centerpiece for your altar.
Connect With Others
Host an Ostara gathering with friends or family. You can have a potluck meal, share stories, & perform rituals together.
Ostara is a time to celebrate the return of the light & the promise of new growth & possibilities. Find your own special way to honor the season & embrace the energy of renewal & transformation.
Journaling during Ostara can be a wonderful way to connect with yourself, your intentions, & the natural world around you.
